Wedding Diaries: House Hunting

Here's a sneak peak of our backyard....

Searching for a new home is no easy task. Searching for a new home within a budget is mission impossible. My fiancé and I have been on the search for a place to call our own since early December. We debated on location, property types, and even contimplated on moving out of state. Feeling road blocked and overwhelmed, I decided to leave the finding of our new home in the hands of destiny. I knew this sounded delusional, superstitious, and a bit silly, until I got an email notification from Trulia. It was perfect! A quaint, isolated penthouse condo nestled between Studio City and Hollywood Hills, that completed all our requirements. After a long time of waiting we just got the keys, now time for remodeling!

American Salon_ Sebastian Hair Products

During the last semester of my senior year at Woodbury University, we were given an amazing opportunity with Sebastian Professional. They sorted through our senior collection to choose one outfit that would be featured in their new Ad campaign for American Salon. I was fortunate enough to have both my garments chosen for the photo shoot. Here is the behind-the-scenes screen shot!

I hope you enjoy!

Nasty Gal #GIRLBOSS

Fashion mastermind, Sophia Amoruso, just launched a new book call #GIRLBOSS. The book is promised to highlight Amoruso's path from rags to riches. Today I had the privilege to be part of her book tours Q&A at Barnes and Nobles. Honest yet shy Amoruso was interviewed by Nicole Richie on her journey to success and how she remains GIRLBOSS. It was such a great experience to hear Amoruso explain her path of building one of the largest fashion empires, Nasty Gal. I am looking very forward to reading the book and so should you!

P.S. How awesome is my friend Marae's braided hair-do! Check out her blog Areyoublindedbymysparkle.tumblr.com

Woodbury University Fashion Show 2014

Woodbury University held their annual Fashion Show last Thursday night. The fabulous event was held at Club Nokia in LA Live. The show highlighted design works of Sophomores, Juniors, and ofcourse the graduating Seniors. The Sophomores presented a beautiful collection of digital print swimwear with neoprene coverups. The Juniors designed a street style collection based off a certain city in Los Angeles. Lastly, each Senior student presented a collection which dramatically represented their individuality and creativity.

Woodbury's costume design program organized a theatrical presentation of 'Alice in Wonderland.'

As a former Fashion graduate from Woodbury University, it was very exciting to be present at the show. It was wonderful seeing the continuous development of Woodbury's fashion program and their positive influence over students.

Here is a sneak peak of some photos...

Mother's Day in Malibu

Is there a better way to spend Mother's Day other than at the beach? Malibu's weather was absolutely wonderful today. Gladstones Restaurant in Malibu is a local favorite and is popular not only for its food but for its amazing location. I sported this beach-side look for amazing prices from H&M.

Top was only $29.95
Pants: $12.95 (be careful they run small)

Night @ The Redburry

Fun night at The Redburry Hotel in Hollywood. The hotel's old Hollywood glamour was ideal for a photoshoot. I topped my fringe Urban Outfitters skirt with over an American Apparel leotard. In order to conceal the skirt's waistline and make the outfit look like a one-piece, I used a decorative BCBG belt. Lastly, I wore my Schutz spike shoes to match my belt.

Metgala 2014-Best Dressed

Best dressed couple at the Metgala 2014? My vote goes to Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds! Both drenched in Gucci, Blake Lively stuns in a nude sequin dress while Ryan sports a velvet tux and bow tie.

Soft Make-up Palette for your everyday look

Fortunately or unfortunately, make-up has become a daily duty for girls and women. Just like men we must wake up, brush our teeth, wash our face, but now we are faced with the application of make-up. Whether it's mascara to help us look awake or cover-up to make us look 'flawless', we all do something. If you're like me, then you dread the process of spending hours applying fake eyelashes, eye liner, or contouring your face on a daily basis. I have finally discovered the perfect make-up combo that will leave your face looking fresh, natural, and beautiful!

Sail Away with Nauti Girl

Captain of the Ship

Los Angeles natives are blessed with easy access to many beaches of the Pacific Ocean. As soon as the weather hits the skies the public beaches are swamped with umbrellas, tanning lotions, and sand castles. Wanting to avoid all the chaos, my fiancé and I decided to rent a boat to relax and enjoy the beautiful day! Check my next post for outfit inspirations!

April Showers of Orange

This year Los Angeles felt the scorching sun more than April showers. With the start of a new month and new tan lines, I dedicate this post to my favorite April outfits. Orange hues and Jeffrey Campbell's were my obsession last month. My orange striped shorts comes with a matching jacket from Anne Taylor. Button up top is from one and only Marshall's. Jersey pencil skirt and silk tie shirt is Vince Camuto from Macy's.

Time to Hunt

Entering the world of Fashion is glamorous, fast-paced, and full of surprises. But like most things in life beauty isn't everything. Majoring in fashion is much more difficult and complex than what it is viewed as. Long hours, mental drainage, constant competition, and the ability to excel within your creativity and designs are many of the jobs highlights. After finishing college, fashionistas are left confused on what career path to take. A degree in fashion gives you branches to so many appealing fields and careers which makes the decision making that much more difficult.

Best ways to choose your career is by focusing on your favorite aspect of the field. Do you like the business side? Do you like the creative side? Do you aspire to work as a designer for a company or grow on developing your own? Or do you want to work as a stylist for film, tv, etc.? If creativity isn't your specialty, look for office jobs in fashion companies such as an assistant or receptionist.

Now it's time to find a job!
-Having connections is unfortunately the best way to score a job. Try to intern and network as much as you can throughout college, your connections and experiences will be a big plus.
-look at job postings online. There are many websites built on helping you find a career in fashion. Style Careers, Fashion Jobs, WWD, Apparel News
-sign up with job agencies. 24/7 Talent, Fourth Floor Fashion

And don't forget to prepare an amazing and unforgettable portfolio!

The Wedding Diaries: Bridesmaid Horror

fashion-setter.blogspot.com

This week on The Wedding Diaries, I battled the challenge of finding the right bridesmaid dress! Ladies, finding the right bridesmaid dress is more difficult than the hunt for your own dress. Every girl has a different body, skin tone, height, taste, and schedule! Trying to arrange a day, time, and dress with a group of women is confusing, usually unsuccessful, and definitely stressful. My experiences with various bridal parties taught me that the best way to shop for BM dresses is to do it alone. I started my journey in Downtown LA's South Santee St., which was once a hidden gem for finding unique and price reduced evening gowns. Unfortunately store owners have now confused this street with Rodeo Drive by overpricing their merchandise. Most dresses were priced from $200-$500 and many were only catalog orders. I do not recommend spending more than $150 on a dress from downtown. Im also not a big fan of buying from specialty stores that carry bridesmaid dresses. They are again overpriced, the sizes are always wrong and complicated, and they take way too long to deliver. Department stores like Macy's, NordstromBloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, and even Saks Fifth Avenue  have started carrying bridesmaid dresses.
